At Free Lives, my responsibilities included developing and managing project schedules in collaboration with the team, identifying and assigning tasks, assessing project priorities, managing external stakeholder relationships (contractors, porting partners and publishers) and facilitating an agile development process. I was also responsible for the studio’s human resource related processes and focused on improving communication habits across project teams and the studio as a whole. With the Free Lives team, I have shipped two titles including: GORN (Steam, Oculus Store) and Cricket Through the Ages (Apple Arcade). Show less

    • Research and writing consultant
      • Feb 2017 - Feb 2017

As part of their Serious About Games Initiative, the Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative - in partnership with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism - commissioned the development of a research report on serious games. The report serves as a primer for interested stakeholders (including government, civil society, private sector and the media) and provides an overview of what serious games are, as well as an introduction to the local game development industry and local game audience. Along with Nicholas Hall and Mandy J. Watson, I acted as co-author of the report. It was my responsibility to edit and add to an initial draft of the report. I focused particularly on the section dealing with the local game development industry and local game audience. Show less

    • Urban Land Policy Researcher
      • Jan 2014 - Jan 2017

As the lead policy researcher in Isandla Institute’s urban land programme I primarily coordinate a project that is focused on creating communities of practice in the field of informal settlement upgrading. My duties include analysing policy documents and literature that relate to relevant themes such as urban land management, community-based planning methodologies, participatory governance and international upgrading practices. These analyses are captured in knowledge products (see link below) that are disseminated to stakeholders in the urban sector. The project also requires competencies such as event coordination, stakeholder engagement, report writing and the writing of media outputs. Furthermore, I contribute to Isandla Institute’s ongoing work related to the implementation of 'Right to the City' in South Africa and to the establishment of Civic Academies geared towards improving the nature and quality of local democracy and development.
