PhD Student in Human-Robot Interaction

- Designed and conducted two live experiments involving robots. - Designed and conducted three questionnaire studies using online tools and hard copies.- Programmed robots for live experiments using C++ and Python.- Programmed the web interface of the robot’s screen using HTML/CSS.- Installed and set up a Roowifi device on a Roomba robot that allowed the robot to be connected to the Robot House network. The Robot House is a typical British house that was transformed into a smart house for experimental purposes.- Manipulated a Roomba robot, a customised robot named Sunflower, and a Pepper robot.- Manipulated the Sunflower robot through ROS (Robot Operating System).- Build a 3D model of the Robot House using SketchUp.- Recruited participants for each study.- Used quantitative research in various forms (online questionnaires, hardcopies questionnaires, surveys etc…).- Used qualitative research in the form of short interviews.- Processed data using statistical analysis with SPSS and GoogleDoc Spreadsheet.- Reported results in scientific Conference and Journal papers, including an article for an online media.- Presented the research work and results in colloquium and international conferences in a form of an oral presentation.- Chaired a session at the 2018 IEEE RO-MAN (Robot and Human Interactive Communication) conference in Nanjing, China.- Attended several international conferences, workshops and robotic showcases on robots, Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), ethics and automated systems.- Reviewed Conference and Journal papers.- Maintained the Adaptive System Group website using the CMS Joomla.

Research intern as an Embedded Systems engineer

- Built a piece of equipment that detects foot impact on a device developed by a PhD student to measure people's walking gait pattern. - Conducted user studies of the prototype with healthy participants of various age on slopes and normal straight/flat surfaces. - Analysed with Matlab the way people walk and determine the type of environment where they were walking in collaboration with a teammate specialised in modelisation. - Built and maintain a good relationship with participants and my teammate. - This study was part of a PhD thesis in which ultimately the PhD student would determine how much energy is spent while doing a physical exercise thanks to his device to prevent falls.
