      Selected by Superintendant as lead preschool teacher (Even Start) to create a Early Childhood Program for three year old at-risk children who would then move on to the four year old Virginia Initiative Preschool Program . Created a program that is experiential in nature using hands-on, center-based instruction which focuses on play to motivate children to scaffold their learning. Combined a research based curriculum with the Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning: Comprehensive Standards for Four-Year-Olds (2007). Positive tests scores resulted in the school board adding two more classes. Accomplishments: Develop age appropriate lesson plans to promote social and academic growth, as well as emotional and healthful well being. Plan and implement small and large group instruction to help children scaffold their own learning using what they know. Facilitate building that knowledge to a new level through play. Create theme based, interactive instruction including integration of reading and writing during learning circles and small group instruction. Keep portfolio with samples of student work, a monthly behavior chart, parental communications, assessment checklists monitoring student progress and needs areas, include pictures of the child at play/work. Update web site weekly as a communication tool to increase parental involvement in the program. As team leader (2006-10): Met with team weekly to plan lessons and discussed concerns about children. Made schedules for field trips, school events, other special events. Created and sent out notifications, newsletters, updating web master with articles and pictures of children weekly.       Appointed lead teacher of a federally funded Even Start program (2004) where parent and child attend school together. The class of combined three and four year old children who attended preschool while their parent/s attended school working toward his/her GED. Parenting classes were a component of the program. Activities were designed to promote daily interaction between parent and child. Accomplishments: Planned differentiated instruction for three and four year olds using center based play and thematic units with ample opportunity for story time, use of finger plays, nursery rhymes, and music and movement activities . Co-planned activities with the GED teacher for parents to participate with their children during Parent and Child Time (PACT). Communicated with parents daily and also went to home visits bi-weekly to provide one on one instruction to parent and child. Helped redirect families to agencies who could help them with private concerns. Tested children and reported results to Director weekly. Accomplishments: Taught introductory French to 7th and 8th grade students. Each group was required to take one semester of Spanish and French in seventh grade and then concentrate in one area for 8th grade. The 7th grade course included introductory French with a concentration in speaking and understanding cultural diversity of French speaking countries.
