  I was 1 of 30 high school students selected to participate in this summer program focused on community service, job shadowing, and education across various medical fields. I interacted with medical professionals including doctors, nurses, techs, and therapists to see first-hand the inner workings of Mercy Hospital St. Louis. I also explored non-clinical positions, such as administration and clerical, to learn more about what it takes for a hospital to successfully serve its patients. As a volunteer, I cared for patients and visitors alongside Mercy staff. My volunteer and job shadow rotations included working in Labor and Delivery, Orthopedics, Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical departments. Show less
