The Clinic for Special Children is a non-profit organization established to diagnose, treat and research genetic disorders. We focus on genetic pediatric disorders in the Amish and Mennonite community. I support and participate in those efforts both in a key leadership role and in the laboratory.I oversee all operations in conjunction with a core leadership team and report to the Board of Directors. I am responsible for all aspects of financial management including budget development, budget monitoring and accounting. I also oversee all HR functions as well as the maintenance and upkeep of the building and grounds. In addition I supervise the administrative staff, coordinate with collaborators and ensure institutional intellectual property protection.

I perform various lab assays such as: Sanger DNA sequencing, next generation sequencing, targeted mutation detection by melting curve analysis, primer design and exome sequencing data analysis. I maintained a HPLC which I used to perform amino acid analysis by plasma or a DBS. I maintained a GC/MS which I used to analyze urine/plasma organic acids. I maintained lab records used for CLIA re-certification and state inspections. I also extracted DNA primarily from whole blood samples. I also designed oligonucleotide primers and performed candidate gene sequencing.
