During this 3 month internship I completed 3 projects. Project 1 was to inventory abandon mines within the BLM area, I utilized a Trimble GPS unit and collected points and data such as hazards, recent activity, and access on each abandon mine encountered. Project 2 was GIS based. I assisted in creating a map of the BLM area and overlaid it with data for potential fossil yield for that area. This map was used to help identify potential of fossils within new mining and excavation claim areas. Project 3 was recreational in nature. I assisted in collecting data form the Burning Man event which is held in the Winnemucca BLM district (Black Rock Desert). We utilized Trimble GPS units to collect data, that was used in the Leave No Trace Environmental Study for the event. Show less
