Field Service Engineer

My role at ABLE consisted of installing, commissioning and maintaining flow and level instrumentation. My main specialties at ABLE were ultra sonic flow meters and Guided Wave Radar level instrumentation. I became more than familiar with the Seimens Controlotron 1010 ultrasonic flow meter and the VEGA range of level instrumentation, I also provided training courses for both of these products in house and also to customers. My role at ABLE consisted of installing, commissioning and maintaining flow and level instrumentation. A technician working between liquids and gas on the calibrations, ATEX inspections and perform regular maintenance on the storage tank level gauges.Responsibilities:● Liquid Depot’s – Maintenance of electrical systems and calibration of instrumentation throughout the depot’s. I am in charge of the schedule of the calibrations for the supply line of aviation fuel to Manchester airport which involves co-ordinating with various people from the depot manager at the beginning of the line to the pipeline superintendent.● Gas Contract’s – Performing ATEX inspections on various power stations throughout the country, Calibrations at the main incoming gas lines of the power stations, working with the metering engineer to perform maintenance on the fiscal metering. I would also travel the country installing and maintaining data loggers on the TRANSCO gas transmission lines.

I started as an Apprentice with DENCA and then moved on to be a part of the Service and Calibration department as a Technician. Responsibilities:● Panel Shop - Reporting directly to the workshop supervisor and engineer and constructing control panels from verbal, written and Cad drawings. Checking of equipment and fault diagnosis.● Service & Calibration – Working as part of a team responsible for the regular calibration of process instrumentation on site at various client premises to ensure process conforms to required quality standards. The instrumentation typically involves Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Conductivity, pH, etc. We also supply a breakdown & maintenance service, this involves fault finding & repair on a large variety of instrumentation and PLC control equipment.● Commissioning – As a systems company Denca supply complete packages to clients from drawing board to plant production. As part of this I have been involved in pre-commissioning and commissioning of control systems on large plant installations.● AutoCAD – Work carried out in each of these areas would often require drawings to be updated. I would regularly make these changes.Site Experience (brief but not all): ● Diageo Runcorn Packaging – A packaging company associated with Guinness, Smirnoff and other alcoholic beverages. Work carried out – General calibrations such as Temperature Tx’s, Pressure Tx’s and Flow Transmitters etc. Also work carried out includes breakdowns.● Valspar (Deeside) – A coatings company for food cans and beverage cans. Work carried out – General calibrations, installation work, and breakdown.● Eden Biodesign (Liverpool) - An integrated biopharmaceutical development organization. Work carried out – Calibrations on the HPW, WFI, Effluent plants, Air handling differential gauges and the ALPHA units within the clean rooms.
