My current role is at Argo Engineering Solutions Ltd, an engineering consultancy on the edge of the New Forest. Here, I work on a variety of different projects, specialising in weight critical structures in composites, aluminium and steel. We have the skills to offer structural engineering packages in the most appropriate materials, being fully material agnostic and are able to offer our clients build and supply as required. Since I joined, I have developed my FEA skills on project and have progressed to Lead Engineer for a number of those. My skills have not only grown technically, but I have also gained a solid business acumen as I have had a key role in the development of this growing company, since I started. I am now looking to assist taking the company to new heights as a shareholder and excited to be involved in Argo’s future. Show less

Whilst at BMT I carried structural analysis on a variety of boats and structures using both hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis. I was required to communicate across departments, often responsible for bringing solutions to the table to meet tight space and weight restrictions. As a new team member it was key for me to build trust with the key members of the departments. I moved to Magma to develop my understanding of manufacturing. Whilst at Magma I was a key member of the team designing and building the 3 carbon free standing masts for Sail Yacht A. As well as expanding my engineering knowledge I was also given key responsibilities for liaising with the clients representative for design build and FAT HAT and SAT approval. I also had responsibility for the build team whilst I was based at the ship yard in Kiel. I moved to Magma to develop my understanding of manufacturing. For my first graduate role, I was very lucky to secure a job in this well-respected company with a long history in the marine industry. I was able to put into practice the theory I learned at University and really expand on my knowledge. I developed my core skills around 2D and 3D modelling with much of my time spent doing structural engineering. this gave me the opportunity to master Finite Element Analysis (as much as it can be mastered). My understanding of the design and building process and skills required to undertake is reflected in the strength and depth of the team at BMT Nigel Gee and the number of boats they design across such a wide spectrum. I was fortunate to obtain a summer placement role over several years at Mailway. I worked on the shop floor maintaining, designing and re-building machinery. Here I learned key skills, such as welding and how to use a lathe and milling machine. The understanding of these processes is a skill I still use in my current work.
