Responsible for the management of up to 20 subject matter experts, including ETCS L1 LS project and maintenance engineers to deliver all aspects of ETCS L1, L2 and ASDO works for detailed design and data and testing, I developed and publication of all ETCS L1 LS systems engineering principles, standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, and instructions, ensuring that they were fit for purpose to support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective management of the new Sydney Trains assets through their lifecycles, involving the creation of 45 new procedures and guidelines and the management of the continued updates to the Asset Management Branch ETCS L1 LS principle.Held the ETCS Level 1 Limited Supervision (LS) - Delegated authority for ETCS L LS AEO for the Sydney Trains ESI group, meaning any ETCS L1 LS design that was produced by Sydney Trains, designs would require my endorsement, making sure all aspects of the design were safe and compliant. The development of the design ETCS Competency framework for Sydney Trains and amendment of the current design Certificate of Competency to suit. All documents were approved and published by Sydney Trains Standards committee where expert engineering advice was provided.Provided technical guidance and mentoring to the design team in the production of accurate signal design drawings that met Sydney Trains quality, technical and safety standards. Provided expert engineering advice and services to Sydney Trains and external clients to assist them in the delivery of quality, timely and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.I streamlined the asset and documentation management system for Sydney Trains, creating a paperless working environment for the ETCS L1 LS data to be stored and maintained in a cloud-based storage system, with all process and procedures for the field signal engineers and electricians to follow.Responsible and managed AEO approved for ETCS L1, fringe L1/L2 and ASDO, several detailed designs/data packages

Jan 2008 - Dec 2008
Principal Signal Design Engineer for the Parton Abolition and Workington Slot Alteration works for Scott Wilson.Parton Abolition (Electro-Mechanical) - This project involved a full recovery of the signal box and the transfer of all controls onto the next interlocking. The project was extremely demanding due to the mix of old and new equipment and past and current standards. I produced power calculations; scheme plans, bonding plans and detailed wiring design. Workington Slot Alteration (Electro-Mechanical) - Responsible for all the design produced and the delivery of this project, this project was also an electro. The works consisted of converting a mechanical slot to an electrical release and updating the current wiring to modern standards where possible.

Jun 2007 - Dec 2007
Principal Signal design engineer for Kellogg Brown and Root– Infrastructure Division, seconded into RailCorp, working on a range of small signalling works, to gain local domain knowledge.Seconded out to RailCorp - I spent three months in the RailCorp signalling design section, under the supervision of the chief of signals. Giving me a good insight and understanding on how the client works while gaining important design experience on small design jobs in the North Metro region. Whilst working at KBR my role varied from signal design adviser on different projects to assisting other disciplines. I gained experience in the OHW discipline working on the Auburn and Cronulla projects completing wire load calculations and updating drawing to checkers comments. Experience was also gained in Permanent Way design including the location of catch point positions and reviewing of documentation.

Principal Signal design engineer for Carillion – Rail Division, designing the Alsager Level Crossing Renewal and the Crewe Coal Yard to Runcorn Signalling Life Extension WorksAlsager Level Crossing Renewal - I was the lead main designer for the production and design of Alsager MCB CCTV level crossing. My main tasks were to produce all wiring sheets from the typical standard circuits as well as location plans, bonding, signalling and scheme plans, panel alterations, cable schematic and power calculations. My role as lead designer would require me to brief work out and production check work produced by two other design staff.Crewe Coal Yard to Runcorn Signalling Life Extension Works - Miscellaneous works including replacement of mechanical shunts with LED type position light signals, DC track circuit and location renewals to extend the life of the existing infrastructure. Responsibilities included surveying the existing track layout in order to produce an accurate signalling base plan and development of the Outline Project Specifications and Signalling Design Specifications. Codsall to Madeley Resignalling - A life expired electro mechanically signalled area. Work was carried out to re-signal the line with modern equipment. New free wired interlocking: controlled from Madeley SC would replace the existing electromechanical signal boxes. Responsibilities included the design and production checking of 5 new free wired locations within Codsall interlocking. The location work consisted of 2 and 3 aspects signalling with AWS, axle counter and treadle train detection. My responsibilities as a signal design engineer developed over the four and half years I spent with Atkins. Below are the main signalling projects that I have been involved with.

Signal design engineer for WS Atkins - Rail Division, producing a wide range of signalling designs and checking. My responsibilities as a signal design engineer developed over the four and half years I spent with Atkins. Below are the main signalling projects that I have been involved with. Manchester South Capacity Improvement Project Phase 2 - Responsible for design changes to Banner Repeating circuits and controls within the interlocking. The introduction of fibre optic signals and controls required the implication of non-standard designs.Manchester South Capacity Improvement Project - Responsible for design amendments at Edgeley No2 Signal Box, including redrawing of the existing wiring diagrams, alterations to cable schematics, cable core plans, panel wiring and a signal location interface. Liaised with other design organisations to resolve interface/ overlapping design issues.Route 6 Line speed Enhancement Project - Responsible for the production and checking of the new CAD Rugby location plan which required a review of existing locations, IRJ Schedule for construction and Rugby SDS, Scheme Sketches.Recovery of Hixon AHBC - Responsible for the updating of locations to the current standards, through circuits, control tables, loc plan, cable schematics and core plans and the panel drawings for the Colwich area. The design and production check of 15 locations.Manchester South Stage A - I was seconded out to work in Stockport. My duties involved, design office representative and design representative for signal sighting committee, interfacing with the client regularly and a Stage A tracker document.TPWS Location Design - I produced TPWS signalling sketches incorporating survey information. Update of source records to correlation comments. Responsible for TPWS on signals which included the provision of a new location, design of new TPWS circuits and design changes to existing circuits in locations.Route 12 Commissioning - I worked as a MOD 5 tester.
