This was a two month long placement in the fire engineering department at Hoare Lea, whilst there I contributed to a number of high profile jobs such as London Stansted Airport, where I created multiple spreadsheets to perform transient smoke calculations. This made the results more efficient and reliable by eliminating the need for hand calculations, the spreadsheets are now used throughout the company when assessing the safety of a building in the event of a fire. In addition, fire evacuation plans were created for a number of schools whilst working to BS9999 and BB100, I also learnt and perfected the use of computational fluid dynamics whilst carrying out research into residential fires in multistory buildings.
