In the role of Head of Development for Platform Services, Adam reported to the CTO and managed 25 staff across 4 cities. The team was comprised of business analysts, software architects, software engineers and testers. Internally, the development team was managed with 4 sub-teams, each with their own team-leader. Three of sub-teams followed Kanban and one followed Scrum. Stand-up meetings took place three times a week, with a roadmap-tracking meeting run fortnightly. Cross-functional check-in meetings were held every day with operations and adviser services teams to prioritise support issues. Key challenges: • Very large and distributed team, 4 city offices. • Many integrated legacy systems, undocumented and not well understood. • Continuously changing roadmap for feature development. • Staff turn-over. Key achievements: • Meeting key objectives set by the CTO. • Introducing modern agile practices: Training BA’s to split large specification documents into smaller, individually testable user stories. Management and traceability supported within Atlassian JIRA. • Balance of new feature development with support of existing systems. • Cross-functional collaboration with business, infrastructure, operations, product managers and marketing. • Release of OneVue’s first mobile application. • OneVue’s first continuous build / test / deployment pipeline, with Microsoft VSTS. • Achieving a prestigious Investment Trends 3rd place award (up from 7th place the previous year), assisting the business to reach $4.7billion in funds under management within the Platform Services division.
