As a Production Engineer for Antillion, My main focus is to assemble the company’s range of products from part level to finished product. As I’ve been in the manufacturing industry for over 10 years, this kind of work is very much a second nature to me now. Due to the nature of Antillion’s clients, our products had to be of an incredibly high standard of workmanship and reliability, which has allowed me to really focus in on the care and commitment I give to all the work I do. From the very basics such as wire terminating and sub-assemblies through to complicated wiring looms, complex assemblies and software setups, I find that any form of hands-on assembly work or machine operation is something I can take on board very quickly and execute to a very high standard. As Antillion is quite a young company, I’ve had to be very adaptable to change on a regular basis, whether it be manufacturing process changes, changing PLM systems, workflow management etc. This has really helped me focus my ability to be flexibly in my approach to work and at adapt to new work environments quickly and easily. The work that really interested me early on in my employment here was design work. I’ve often been asked to design prototype parts such as bespoke heatsinks and faceplates, and this has required the use of an online design platform called Onshape, which is essentially a slimmed down version of Solidworks. Over the course of the last 4 years, I’ve become very proficient in its use and still use it as a hobby to design and create things at home. My current position at Antillion has provided me with the opportunity to learn a wide variety of new skills, particularly in the area of CAD & CAM work and this is an area which I’d ideally like to push my abilities further.

My initial role at Micha Design was to assemble a large variety of circuit boards used for various functions, ranging from solar panel power distribution to oil flow measuring. I have taken on a large number of responsibilities, a lot of which have required in-house training in order to meet ISO 9001:2008 standards in circuit assembly.PCB Assembly:○ Component Identification○ Thru-Hole component assembly○ SMT Component assembly○ PCB repair/rework○ Prototype PCB etching & drilling○ Prototype PCB assemblyAfter 4 years of PCB assembly within the company, I accepted a role within the mechanical department of Micha in order to expand into mechanical assembly. Again I received in-house training to meet ISO 9001:2008 standards, but from a mechanical perspective. From the 23rd to the 25th of April 2014, the company also had all of the production staff trained in line with IPC-A-610 in wire preparation, terminal wiring and through hole and surface mount component attachment.Mechanical Assembly:○ Machining mounting plates and unit enclosures○ Wire preparation (identification and stripping)○ Wiring of units○ Proper use of tools and equipment (such as torque wrenches & cable crimps)○ Liaising with design staff on faults and improvements○ Unit repair/rework○ Enclosure Preparation & CleaningOther responsibilities include: stock designation on parts deliveries, closing and securing area at end of day close down, cleaning and general maintenance.
