Wright Scholar Research Assistant

Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
As a contractor for the AFRL, I worked in the Sensors Directorate's Electro-Optic Components Branch (AFRL/RYDP) to experiment with thin film deposition and characterization technologies - specifically, sputtering - to examine the optical limiting properties and the surface profilometry. This research contributed to an applied research paper on the functionality of thin film coatings for a multi-layer optical structure designed to induce an optical band gap and serve as a passive optical limiter. Additionally, I was exposed to various programs such as Origin, MATLAB, and Lumerical to manipulate data for analysis and to simulate advanced physics' theories for educational purposes. Furthermore, upon completion of this program I communicated with program managers to further improve the program for future STEM-minded student's to explore research opportunities in the future. This experience enabled me to refer the Wright-Scholar Research program onto numerous underclassmen to help facilitate their own opportunities in exploring possible STEM interests. Show less
