Effectively manages a 37 bed Surgical, Transplant, and Trauma ICU with a 15.9648 WHPPD, budgeted for 31 ADC and 99.82 FTEs. Merger of Surgical/Transplant with Trauma ICU October 2013.FY14 CPPD was under budget by 3%, MRS 100% and OT<3% of total salary.Patient population includes orthopedic injuries, head injuries, SAH, blunt and penetrating trauma, general surgery patients to include breast flaps, OMFS surgery, major abdominal surgeries, liver kidney, and pancreas transplants.Accountable for staff preparation, patient quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and innovative initiatives to support our Magnet journey for 3 successful designations. Accountable for staff preparation for 3 Primary Stroke Center Certification 1 day surveys. Facilitator of the BUMC Organ Donor Collaborative Committee which is responsible for monitoring conversion rates. We also honor donor families dedicating a Wall of Heroes and displaying their pictures on a public wall outside of the Trauma ICU.Performs purposeful rounding to ensure patient/family satisfaction. Currently working on Lean project to decrease length of transfer time from the patient bed assignment from ICU to next level of care to less than 85 minutes.Overall employee retention is 92.2% for FY14 with average years of nursing experience of 9 years.NDNQI RN satisfaction survey was completed in fall of 2014 with a 100% staff participation and Practice Environment Score of 3.23 exceeding the Magnet 75th percentile.Staff development for FY14 includes 2 ASPIRE projects, 1 TCU fellowship, 5 staff nurses in school for BSN and 6 staff nurses in school for MSN.Mentored new Nurse Manager and Supervisor leaders to assume their roles and be successful.Communicates with various departments to coordinate services, resolve operational issues and improve quality of patient care. Preparation and successful designation as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).Managed and coordinated the daily operations of a Trauma Department. Manage and coordinated the activities of inpatient and outpatient wound care Nursing to include enterostomal therapy, skin, wound care, and a multi chamber hyperbaric chamber.Combined the inpatient and outpatient nurses into one department to provide consistency of care to meet the patient’s wound care needs.The outpatient wound care center included not only a clinic but a multi chamber hyperbaric chamber for oxygen therapy (HBO) for patients that have had carbon monoxide poisoning, osteomyelitis, diabetic foot care, necrotizing fasciitis, etc.Developed and implemented a SWAT (Skin Wound Assessment Team) team in 2008. Provided an educational SWAT Academy to staff nurses from every nursing department to act as resources and become the skin expert in their department. We provided continuing education and the SWAT nurses conducted monthly skin audits.
