  Throughout the years I served on several boards, such as the Hamakua Health Center, the Hamakua Music Festival, and chaired the Friends of Hamakua, the organization that was instrumental in positively influencing the State of Hawaii to protect Hawaii from paper (pulp) industry interests.   Tex Drive In, Honokaa, Hawaii, a roadside restaurant famous for its Malasadas. Received several awards, such as SBA Woman of the Year, and the Governor of Hawaii’s Kilohana Award, for development, management strategies and community involvement. Built and operated a second restaurant on the Island in Ka’u (Pahala) from 2002 to December 2005. In 2003 finalized my goal of creating a tourist destination by building on the Tex Drive In site a Garden Center, which also became the area’s center for travel information. Employed between 30 – 60 persons part and full time.
