At The Hockaday School, I provide quality instruction for first grade students, developing impactful and engaging curriculum for math, social studies, computer, and language arts. I am known for maintaining a positive learning environment for an average of 16 students per class while building strong relationships with parents/guardians. During my time here, I drove innovation and positive change inside and outside the classroom. My contributions include integrating technology into language arts and math lessons, including introducing and piloting the use of iPads in the classroom which has now been adopted school-wide. Additionally, I work with the technology teacher to ensure those assignments align with lessons I teach in my classroom. This adaptability allowed me to effectively teach my students in both remote and hybrid settings during the Covid-19 pandemic. I am proud to Chair the Lower School Intercultural Council Committee and serve as Race Relations Liaison for the organization. Part of my work in these roles involved implementing “New Kids on the Block” puppets to teach our elementary students about the physical and emotional challenges some children face. I have also been instrumental in examining learning materials, curriculum, holidays, and more to cultivate a diverse and inclusive environment within the school. In addition to these contributions, I played a pivotal role in researching and evaluating a new Reading adoption series as a member of the Language Arts Committee. I also worked on the Strategic Planning Committee which defined long-term goals to maintain school accreditation and served on the Search Committee dedicated to hiring new administrators.

    • First and Second Grade Teacher
      • 1995 - 2010

At Coppell ISD, I developed and delivered age-appropriate lesson plans for multiple subject areas while fostering positive relationships with parents. I also served on multiple campus and district committees dedicated to driving continuous improvement and quality education. I continuously evaluated student achievement and subject mastery through formal and informal testing and communicated student progress to parents via regular teacher conferences. Additionally, I evaluated state-level standardized test results (TAKS) to create strategies to promote learning and higher tests scores. As a collaborative team member, I regularly partnered with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students in compliance with guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
