  * Implemented software-side changes required for sharding a large SQL database * Helped introduce the use of web services, making it easier to scale and distribute systems and improving the transparency of database technology * Designed and built tools to improve systems monitoring and alerting, allowing flexible, reliable actions to be taken based on user-defined conditions. * Worked on the implementation of a system for replicating database changes across multiple database technologies on many servers in near-real time, dramatically decreasing the coupling required for replication * Introduced measurements using StatsD and Graphite to improve insights into performance issues, allowing us to quickly identify and resolve hotspots.
