Working on the weldability and the associated heat treatments studies of newly-developed Ni-based superalloys VDM 780 and G27 within FEAST (Weld Feasibility and Heat Treatment Studies of New Superalloys) project.In this work, welding experiments using Force/Keyhole TIG and laser beam welding and weldability testings such as Gleeble hot ductility testing and Varestraint weldability testing are performed to investigate the weldability of new superalloys, i.e. hot cracking (HAZ liquation cracking and solidification cracking) susceptibility. In-depth microstructural analysis using FESEM, EDS, EBSD, TEM, and nanoSIMS are used to understand the welding metallurgy and the corresponding cracking susceptibility of the alloys during the welding.
