      • Dec 2017 - May 2018

For this role I was a Data Science Consultant, my primary responsibility was to test an open source decompiler project to predict whether an executable file is malicious malware using features derived from decompiled code. In this project, I utilized a range of open source tools and frameworks to achieve this objective. To begin with, I used RetDec, an open source machine-code decompiler, to reverse engineer both malicious and benign malware executables into their source code. This process helped me extract relevant features from the code that were subsequently used for analysis. Additionally, I leveraged Gym-Malware, another open source project that utilizes the OpenAI framework to manipulate Windows PE binaries, to build a baseline model for feature extraction from decompiled executables. Through this process, I discovered more than 2,000 new features that were used to train new machine learning models. Finally, I developed a baseline XGBoost model to measure the performance of subsequent models using the discovered features. Through my efforts, we were able to improve the accuracy of our malware detection system and mitigate potential threats. Show less

Additionally, I created a master Excel file containing watch-list information for loans and investors each month in 2017, which served as a valuable resource for future auditing purposes. As part of my efforts to improve fraud detection processes, I proposed ideas to the Head Senior Director of Enterprise Fraud, including the use of Artificial Intelligence/Deep Learning to automate manual fraud screening processes and the development of a graph database to more quickly identify politically exposed persons (PEPs). Lastly, I created a Python script to automate data extraction from XML files and convert it into Excel table format. I also modified an open source Java project found on GitHub to automate simple, repetitive tasks. Through these initiatives, I was able to contribute to LendingClub's ongoing efforts to improve fraud detection and ensure the integrity of its lending practices. Show less
