      During my Master's Degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Data Science, I focused on the emerging field of Digital Phenotyping, which leverages data provided by smartwatches and wearables that passively sense various aspects of an individual's behavior. This cutting-edge technology opens up new opportunities for understanding and predicting mental health conditions. As part of my thesis, I was involved in research on Digital Phenotyping to predict mental health using advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques. I collaborated with a team that designed and implemented a comprehensive framework for preprocessing and analyzing the collected data. Our aim was to uncover meaningful patterns and relationships that could contribute to early detection and personalized interventions. In order to achieve accurate predictions, we applied a range of sophisticated methods. We started with Linear Regression with regularization, which allowed us to model the relationships between multiple features and mental health indicators while mitigating the risk of overfitting. This approach provided valuable insights into the predictive power of individual variables. To capture more complex patterns, we employed a fully connected artificial neural network. By leveraging deep learning, we trained a model that could identify intricate associations between different data streams and mental health outcomes. This method significantly improved the predictive accuracy and revealed non-linear relationships that were not easily discernible through traditional statistical approaches. Furthermore, we explored the temporal aspect of the data by utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. These recurrent neural networks enabled us to model the sequence of observations and capture the dynamics of mental health over time. By incorporating memory cells and forget gates, the LSTM architecture effectively learned dependencies and improved the prediction performance. Show less
