Abigail was employed as a Groundwater Scientist in the Hydrogeology Department at GNS Science for the period 2012-2018. During this time, Abigail led, executed, and contributed to an extensive range of research and consultancy projects. Key work areas included groundwater characterisation, water resource management, and other earth and environmental studies. Abigail developed considerable applied and field experience including drilling rig supervision, well logging, monitoring bore installation, aquifer testing, water sampling, installation of recharge monitoring sites, geophysical methods, geothermal features monitoring, and groundwater – surface water interaction investigations. In addition, Abigail undertook a range of investigations into impacts of landuse on water quality including state and trends analysis, hydrological assessments and resource management investigations. In addition, Abigail was responsible for management and delivery of large, multi-disciplinary research programmes including GNS Science SSIF Groundwater Resources of NZ Programme (2015 – 2018), Vision Matauranga Capability Fund (2014 – 2018), and administrating the MBIE-funded Smart Models for Aquifer Management programme (2016 – 2018). Abigail regularly worked with a range of stakeholders and end-users including regional and district councils, iwi/hapū, landowners, and other scientists through both research and consultancy projects. Abigail regularly collaborated with end-users throughout research projects and in oral, visual, and written presentation of results.
