As the Events Manager at Children's Cancer North, I work with both the research team at the Centre for Cancer Research within the Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre at Newcastle University and the staff on the Paediatric Oncology Wards at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne. My main responsibilities are planning and delivering the larger projects within our events portfolio for the charity to raise funds to make life better for children and young people with cancer in the North East and Cumbria. The charity invests in revolutionary research, provides support for children and their families and raises awareness of childhood cancers. Our portfolio of events includes the Children's Cancer Run based at Gosforth Park which takes place in May each year and has been staged for 39 years. In 2019 we added a second annual Children’s Cancer Run which is based at Bitts Park in Carlisle. During the pandemic we adapted the Children’s Cancer Run to add an ‘At School’ element to the project which is now a welcome addition to our annual events offering. In the past few years we have also held the Children's Cancer Ride along the banks of the River Tyne during the summer months and the Children’s Cancer Walk in Northumberland during the autumn. My work with local and national businesses and our event Corporate Supporters, who provide equipment, services and/or funds for our events, enable the delivery of these fundraising projects at minimal cost. This ensures the money raised through donations and sponsorship by the event participants funds the charity’s three main objectives: research, support and awareness. Show less
