I have extensive experience in studying the immunological responses in sepsis, Ebola and coronavirus. I developed a platform to modulate physiology of the human organs by using patient-derived cells and blood and study immune responses in infectious diseases. In collaboration with LUMC, ErasmusMC, and UMCU, I am currently using the platform to study the effect of metabolic and immune factors on the response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.- Optimized blood separation procedures to analyze COVID-19 blood samples. - Work in ISO 17025 and GLP certified lab.- Monitor and train junior colleagues. I developed a 3D microvessel-on-a-chip platform to measure vascular dysfunction. In this platform, I perfused and analysed patient blood samples for inflammatory and oxidative stress markers. I also worked on ways to modulate the immune response in sepsis patients by using immune modulating agents. Moreover, I modelled Ebola hemorrhagic syndrome in the microvessel-on-a-chip, measured viral load and targeted it by using drug candidates.- Connected the organs-on-chips with UPLC-MS/MS to measure novel inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers in immune disorders.- Supervised bachelor and master students in their internships.
