I completed a 1-month internship at the Siemens manufacturing facility in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. As an intern in the machining department, I received hands-on training operating computer numerical control (CNC) turning machines, I learned how to read technical drawings and computer-aided designs to understand the specifications of the parts I needed to produce. I was trained on shop floor safety procedures and proper operation of the CNC machines. The CNC turning machines I worked with were high-precision, fast, and automated. I learned how to set up the machines by loading programs, installing cutting tools, and placing raw materials. The CNC machines moved and positioned the cutting tools automatically while spinning the materials at high speeds to shape them into the required forms. My role was to monitor the machines to ensure there were no errors or impaired operations and to measure and inspect the parts I produced to strict quality standards. I developed skills for efficiency, productivity, and meeting tight deadlines. The internship complemented my engineering studies at university and confirmed my interest in a career as a manufacturing engineer. I built skills that have prepared me well for future opportunities as an engineer. My time with Siemens was a challenging yet rewarding experience. Show less
