During my time at MoJ I was the primary privacy contact for approx 4000 employees. I advised on a range of complex initiatives that involved personal information governed by the Privacy Act 1993 and court information governed by other legislation. From a compliance perspective it was important toI distinguish the information and apply the correct legislation when providing advice. MoJ also had a large amount of complex breaches which often required me to facilitate engagement from multiple areas of the organisation to assist with their resolution. Once a month I presented a retrospective to the Executive Committee which formed part of our annual privacy maturity report. I also undertook an audit of MoJ’s overall privacy maturity, including drafting and delivering a full report to the Executive Committee and Office of the Chief Privacy Officer. An important part of my role at MoJ was to deliver tailored training to teams across the organisation. Often the training I delivered was in person but I also created digital content that can be used for future reference.

Newly created position - Trade Me's first operational privacy advisor. I was first hired at Trade Me to assist with Intellectual Property enforcement but after a few months I was offered the opportunity to be the first dedicated Privacy Officer where I became responsible for managing privacy operations business wide. This was a newly created role which involved setting up a lot of how Trade Me manages privacy to date. Initially it was a temporary position that required demonstrating to the board the importance of having a dedicated privacy function at Trade Me. Within three months it became my permanent position.

      • Feb 2011 - Mar 2012

My role was to work with businesses to help them engage and access resources from tertiary organisations. At Grow Wellington I worked in the Business Growth team as the Tertiary Engagement Manager. In that role, I helped over 60 businesses in the Wellington Region partner with tertiary organisations to undertake joint research and development projects that were central to their core business objectives. I see this as a fantastic opportunity for businesses to get quality resources that will help them to grow by bringing in new capability, and for giving students an opportunity to gain practical experience in the field in which they are studying.
