The General Aviation Flight Laboratory – or GAFL – is an engineering research lab located within the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Wichita State University. The GAFL specializes in the R&D of innovative concepts and solutions in areas of aerospace control systems, aviation safety technologies, and flight simulation.As an Undergraduate Research Assistant for the GAFL, I have been working on a project that aims to mitigate the Loss of Control (LoC) scenarios, such as stall, from occurring in flight. LoC is a major contributor to air accidents worldwide. The GAFL employs analytical methods, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and extensive testing on its state-of-the-art flight simulation equipment, that I assist with.

The Student Assistant, under the supervision of the Student Engagement Coordinator, assists in the planning and implementation of various programs and supports the ESSC team administratively. The position entails:• Developing promotional materials for programs. • Planning and coordinating events.• Tracking and processing data. • Managing daily tasks associated with services such as academic tutoring and mentoring.

Aerospace Engineering Projects & Prototyping Laboratory Associate

The AE Lab Associates Program (LAP) allows Aerospace Engineering students to become associates at the Projects & Protoyping Lab (PPL) on campus. Their primary role is to work in the lab, and to help others. In return, following training and demonstrating responsible participation, members are granted direct access to the lab and use of more sophisticated lab tools.AE-LAP members are required to:• Reliably and properly work in the lab a few hours a week.• Learn proper equipment operation and lab procedures.• Monitor and help other AE students working in the lab.• Watch after the safety of people and all lab resources.• Be responsible for the lab.
