Aaron is an enthusiastic young man eager to develop his skills and put his GIS degree to work. He is active in many organizations and enjoys spending his time working with non-profits, which I find to be very admirable. Aaron would be an asset to any company so I'm looking forward to helping him pave his way to an awesome career.

My main task involved weeding vinyl letters and numbers and applying them to different sign surfaces such as coroplast, dibond, aluminum and banners. I have also done simple designs in Flexi Pro and I am responsible for updating the trivia calendar for a local restaurant. This position gave me the experience of customer service by helping customers place an order and taking phone calls. I spent the summer interning with members of the City of Huntsville, Alabama GIS department. My main duty involved using high-resolution aerial photos to digitize impervious features, or surfaces that don't allow water to infiltrate the ground. The purpose of the project was to update the city's basemaps and to use the impervious surface area features for flood modeling and for quantifying pollution arising from land use change. One of my duties during the basemap updates was to check for topology errors and correct any errors that occurred. I also had the opportunity to improve the accuracy of the locations of area restaurants by geocoding addresses their addresses to match the building footprints. This dataset was critical for an economic development project by the city that was geared at identifying food deserts or underserved areas. The data will also be used by the Water Pollution Control department on a web-editing application for mapping locations of grease traps. An additional task included digitizing easements, attribute sewer lines and manholes from engineering design drawings. Among others, locations of sewer infrastructure are useful for tracing sewer flow, sewer maintenance and for future developers to plan around existing sewer lines.During my internship I was exposed to ArcSDE and Geodatabases. I can add and create a Spatial Database Connection in order to connect to the SDE database in ArcCatalog. Additionally, I can edit, reconcile, and post SDE data.

I was responsible for verifiying accuracy of addresses and their locations during the spring of 2009 by going door to door and interviewing residents. I also was responsible for plotting addresses on a GPS and adding new roads and buildings to the map. This was done so that the U.S. Census Bureau could send out a questionnaire to residents for the 2010 Census.
