I interned at Richard Quinn's studio in london, working with a team of interns and studio assistants on finishing dresses in their new collection to showcase in February 2021. My primary tasks were to attach embellishment onto final garments using hand embroidery techniques and to invisible stitch large pieces of embroidery onto their corresponding pattern piece ready for the seamstress to construct the final garment. This was a very fast paced working environment and allowed me to not only develop technical skills but to practice time management and organisational skills to conform with the set deadlines. I initially began this internship to complete a minimum 6 weeks for a BA course project and stayed long after this time was up. I absolutely loved working as part of a team in a professional studio environment and found that I really thrived in both independent tasks and working with colleagues. My main duties were to develop and draw embroidery design for both bespoke bridal gown orders and new collections onto pattern pieces as well as work out embellishment placement onto new toiles. After working at this studio for a few months I would also oversee the team of interns at the studio and help delegate tasks. I would assist on hand sewing and embroidery as well as CAD, pattern development and toile cutting and was tasked to develop a silk drawstring bag for the bridal robes to be delivered to clients in. Whilst in this role I would often confer with senior members of the design team to discuss the progression of the design process and review the independent work I had undertaken before moving onto the next stage of design development and would undertake new tasks with those colleagues such as setting up the consultation rooms, packing up orders to send out and working on larger design tasks together.
