Aaron is incredibly passionate about student achievement and offering a diverse curriculum. Working with him, it was notable that he was always willing to listen to new ideas and develop strategies that focussed on student wellbeing and outcomes. As a manager he recognises the importance of promoting staff autonomy and recognising their individual strengths in order to build cohesive teams.

Our improvement journey began with the team achieving a Grade 2 in the April 2014 Ofsted inspection, eight-months after being placed under special measures. Attendance has improved to 90% on vocational programmes and 85% to English and mathematics. Progression has improved overall by 10%. By adopting a "back to basics" approach ensuring that students are ready to learn, teaching and learning stretches and challenges all students and that our students are making progress relative to their starting points, the team and I over three years have improved achievement rates by 15%, particularly at Level 3 where 90% of Diploma students achieved A*-C grades overall. Developing the quality of our provision has made us a desirable partner for employers with the MoD, Met, Fire Services and Paramedics. Recently, students worked with the Met to develop an app to reduce crime on London transport and delivered a presentation at City Hall. We have improved the high-grade achievement of boys on long level 3 programmes, from a flat Pass to DDM, DDD by using a range of strategies to engage boys in academic writing and tailoring the programme to meet employer and learners needs. 85% of our LDD learners achieved their study programme. Other achievements: *have retained and developed my teachers to become advanced practitioners, assessors and teachers in HE through delivering CPD and working closely with our HE provision within the school and utilising expertise *led the growth of the department through improved standards of teaching and learning and quality assurance: we now accommodate over 250 learners, compared to 110 three years ago *formed excellent partnerships with awarding bodies, particularly CACHE, where our centre has become a beacon of good practice, with other colleges being sign posted to us *improved attainment in English and mathematics, including GCSEs our English Grade C achievements are 4% above the college average Show less
