Assessing the use of a DMU patented catalyst technology for wasterwater treatment as a catalyst to synthesise organic compounds. Looking at analysing the effects of hydrogen peroxide, pH, temperature and duration on the extent of epoxidation of selected organic compounds, commonly found in wastewater.

Shape your future: Main duties were to analyse the employability demographics across the campus via the DSU and develop a non academic platform for students to approach the DSU as a one stop shop for employability guidance. Throughout the six months the following was carried out: Organise and run drop in sessions to allow students to engage with the shape your future team to discuss their needs Developing an online feedback form to allow the team to have a preliminary indication of how to tailor the advice for that specific student. Work and liaise with employability officers across the faculties to identify underachieving areas that the DSU could help improve.

Cell Culture Assistant: Main duties were to be trained up on basic cell culture techniques and protocols such as passaging cells, counting and working under a grade 2 cell culture hood. Once competent enough main duties were to facilitate the continuous passaging of a renal and cardiac cell line MDCK and HC92 as well as conducing a simple cytotoxic assay for the short and long terms effects of a group of drugs against the two cell lines.

Square mile volunteer

Working as a volunteer on the square mile diabetes project, promoting healthy eating and DIABETES UK, Working at Brennans Pharmacy for 3 months conducting a questionnaire based system to look at complementary and alternative medication for diabetics in the area. Giving presentations to international students on the project, conducting tours around analytical chemistry labs in De Montfort University.Assisted and worked with a group of DMU frontrunners on further promoting the square mile diabetes project as well as gathering data on local diabetics from various sources such as: Pharmacies, Superstores, Highcross Leicester, Door knocking, Community Centres.Also volunteered on many stem cell drives at the Leicester Mela, Leicester vs india cricket match and De Montfort University for the Rik Basra Leukaemia campaign. Also one of several team leaders for the highly successful race to a 1000 event based around Leicester town and DMU, Loughborough University. In which collectively 1020 stem cell donors were recruited.

Building on my work and skills of my previous Frontrunner position: This new role has given me the opportunity to partake in more supervisory tasks and be responsible for students who also work in the Laboratory both now and in the coming academic year. This includes teaching and demonstrating key medicinal chemistry techniques such as Flash Column Chromatography, TLC, Clasien-Schmidt reaction and the use of the equipment and apparatuses in the Lab. On top of this, more responsibility has been given to me in the form of help supervisor the progress of the Square mile Diabetes CAM project in terms of helping and monitoring frontrunners working on the project's continuation.

Keynote speaker along with David Hollis at the National Volunteering Conference 2014 on the topic of "a student progression due to DMU Square Mile". Conducted Speeches and presentations on the benefits of DMU square mile volunteering for students:YouTube video "how to volunteer":Conducted a video interview on my experience of my volunteering for the square mile diabetes project and explained how others can volunteer to enhance various skills and boost their employability prospects http://youtu.be/x9wfqfeXA48BBC radio interview on Tony Wadsworth morning show.Mark Charlton (DMU square mile project manager) and I were invited to talk about The DMU Square Mile Iniative and the benefits it has on the community and increasing the employability prospects for student volunteers. EAUC sustainability Webinar:The Square mile team invited Dr Ketan Ruparelia and I to talk about our diabetes research project in looking at complementary and alternative medicines. I gave my own students perspective on how the project has benefited me in enhancing my confidence and people skills as well as other aspects.
