Summer Internship - "Black hole shadows and photon rings"

In this project, mathematical tools and physical intuition were acquired to describe the fantastic observation of the first observation of a supermassive black hole, at the centre of the nearby galaxy M87, in an elementary manner. More specifically, the presence of a bright “photon ring” surrounding a dark “black hole shadow” has been discussed as an essential feature of the observational appearance of emission originating near a black hole.
