Jun 2016 - Aug 2016
I carried out a research studentship at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH) for 8 weeks in Summer 2016. I investigated an unclassified rare inherited congenital neuromuscular TBCK-related disorder caused by a deletion. I identified the disease mutation locus using the Ingenuity® Variant Analysis™ online program and 7 intronic informative single nucleotide variants by PCR and Sanger sequencing. I learned how to determine the length of the deletion causing the disease and its segregation in the family using the programs Sequencher and DNA star. This experience taught me multi-tasking and independent thinking. I demonstrated good project management skills and I established a good working relationship with my supervisors who allowed me to work on an additional project on Bardet-Biedl syndrome for an extra couple of weeks.
