Filling in the gaps by offering ad-hoc due diligence and consultancy services to clients. 1: Covering technical advice, commercial and process reviews and general advice during M&A due diligence for a confidential client planning on entering the EU and UK fire and security industry via acquisition. Providing technical input and helping them to assess a potential acquisition for suitability and fit. 2: Working as a Fractional CTO with the CEO of Jobmove to rebuild their development team. Jobmove outsource their development to a small team of Ukranian developers. Following the invasion of Feb 2022 the developers joined the Ukranian defence effort, and development was put on hold. I've been working with the CEO to temporarily back-fill his team with the correct skill sets and to define work packages to be sub-contracted out. Show less

Simoco Group is a manufacturer and distributor of PMR products. Designing, building and customising radio, data and voice solutions created to meet the individual needs of business and mission critical users. I was responsible for the worldwide development teams within the Simoco Group of companies in the UK and Australia and worldwide manufacture of our range of innovative analogue and digital PMR products and applications. Since joining the company in 2013, I brought the Simoco Xd range of DMR Tier II and Tier III products to market, overcoming technical challenges and meeting challenging cost targets in the process. I facilitated the design of the Simoco Pulse range of DMR modems and RTU's, which opened up a new market in the utilities sector for the company. Working with a small but dedicated team of developers in Derby, UK and Melbourne, Australia, we have delivered an innovative product range that provides a feature rich and flexible implementation of the ETSI DMR standards at a highly competitive price point. Founded Open Stack Ltd. initially as a telecommunications consultancy business to develop and support new telecomms products for our clients. We diversified into a wider range of consultancy and development of products in such fields as marine electronics and navigation aids. With a small number of highly skilled engineers, we developed products very quickly and efficiently. Areas of expertise include UMTS, TETRA, GSM/GPRS protocols, user interface design and Android platform development. We provided services on many levels; from standard on or off site technical consultancy to full product development. Show less

    • Director of Development
      • May 2007 - Dec 2008

Responsible for delivery of complex TETRA professional mobile radio (PMR) technology solutions, including pre sales discussions and negotiations and requirements capture. My responsibilities included operating as a technical advisor to the board of directors of the SRT plc. Our client base was global and covered emergency services, military security services and commercial users, predominantly in the Far East, but increasingly in the rest of the world. I was responsible for a department consisting of 40+ hardware and software developers, integration and test engineers based in offices worldwide. My main duties involved understanding clients needs in relation to PMR activities and creating technology that could be developed internally and subsequently rolled out to clients on a worldwide basis. I turned around a major development project that was in a downward spiral with no likelihood of ever delivering to customers. I completely restructured the project and set up a small team of experienced engineers in the to oversee the less experienced staff who had previously been carrying out support tasks to integrate and debug the deliveries to take over the development. In addition to controlling the project schedule, these policies also reduced the ongoing development costs, as we were able to carry out the work with a significantly lower number of more highly skilled, focussed and motivated employees. Originally brought in to develop a new AT command interface module from scratch to create an interface into Samsung’s own dual mode protocol stack. This is intended to work with various proprietary and third party user interfaces such as Series 60, MS Smartphone etc. for future projects. I later moved into a newly formed team responsible for integrating the non access stratum of the dual mode protocol stack with the UMTS access stratum. This has involved debugging throughout the entire protocol stack, predominantly in Layers 2 and 3. Taking ownership of problems discovered during IOT testing and managing their resolution and release. Show less
