  This election year is proving to be more polarizing than ever expected. We believe the 70th District is one of those “safe” seats that can be claimed, as Patrick O’Donnell is a freshman Assemblyman who narrowly won his 2014 seat in a hotly contested Democratic primary. It was clear that Mr. O’Donnell was not the favorite choice of the Democrats, making him vulnerable in this cycle. Looking at the demographics, the 70th district runs 49% Democratic, 21% Republican and 23% Independent. In 2012, Martha obtained 34.2% of the votes in the district, which is more than the Republican challenger (Goya) received in the 2014 primary vs. O’Donnell. Clearly, Martha was able to swing a substantial portion of the Independent/Democratic voters into her camp. Because this presidential primary election cycle has been such a media circus, we know that more voters are now choosing to be “Independent” and shun straight party line voting. We intend to work that to our advantage and take a true boots on the ground approach, reaching out to all voters in the district to find commonality. Martha is a Hispanic woman, a former educator, and a second amendment supporter. She listens to voters and understands that times have changed in the last two years. Our law enforcement officers need to be better equipped to handle daily challenges and the people in our communities need to be assured that they are safe. Our taxpayers need to feel that they are paying into a system that isn’t broken and our students need to receive a quality public education for a fair price. Martha will work with both sides of the aisle to ensure the constituents of the 70th district have a voice. Show less
