My grounding philosophy as a teacher at CCSE-Middle emphasized an awareness of self and other. I established a classroom culture based on the principle of "Ubuntu," which encouraged students (and faculty) to take personal responsibility for the social climate of our school. Each project I designed asked students to expand their own unique power as artists while also supporting and respecting the unique voices of their peers. I emphasized creative problem solving, collaboration, and self-development in all of my lessons. As the professional, I made it my responsibility to model my values by drawing strong community boundaries and respecting my students as equals. Given the challenges of working in a Title I school, I take pride in my professional performance at Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence. I was honored to receive the award for Rookie Teacher of the Year for my ability to design and deliver engaging academic content. I also demonstrated professional efficiency, organizational skills, teamwork, leadership abilities, conflict management, adaptability, and a general passion for the job. In addition, I took on the role as House Leader which required me to build culture and team solidarity and in the absence of a Student Success Coach, I also provided mentorship and remediation to students facing academic and behavioral challenges. • Aug 2020 - Aug 2021

As a Maker Fellow VISTA, I worked closely with Citizen Schools as an advocate and facilitator of maker-centered learning within my district school system. Much of my focus as a VISTA was intended to understand and elevate socially and economically marginalized students through direct service in classrooms, develop maker-centered curriculum, and coordinate professional development for teachers. I also gained experience using marketing strategies to increase the influence of The Global Center for Digital Innovation on Chattanooga State Community College's Campus. I launched social media accounts, hosted visitors, created promotional materials for upcoming events, revamping websites with Wix and WordPress, and I traced impact through data collection. In the Library Studio, I assisted and educated patrons through creative processes like 3-D printing, audio and video recording, animation, graphic design, and music production. Because patrons required assistance with a wide variety of projects and production equipment, an adaptive problem-solving approach to unexpected questions was often necessary.
