Super easy to work with, and full of great knowledge, is my experience of Jocelyn. We worked together when she was Communications Director at the BC Conference Office of the United Church of Canada. Jocelyn came to the position from outside the church, but was eager to learn what she could of the organization and how it worked, continually exploring new avenues, and suggesting current best practices in internal and external Communications. When Jocelyn needed to go over something, she never failed to track me down, no matter where in the world I happened to be. I hope we get to work together again in the future as Jocelyn is a great addition to the team.

Jocelyn is not only an excellent consultant for business strategy development, she is also warm, friendly, and personable. She asks illuminating questions that get at the core values and goals of your business, and helps those values and goals shine through in their practical execution, by coming up with ideas, encouraging seedlings of creativity, and connecting individuals who share similar visions. She is honest and direct, giving realistic feedback about business ideas and their probable success and outcome. She has a very level head on her shoulders, and I know she will be an integral part of any business planning process I have in the future.

"Helping build tribes – one personal, relevant and anticipated message at a time." My passion is “tribe building” – helping people with common interests find each other, trust each other, and take action together. Since 2011, I have helped build tribes for over 40 organizations and projects in the following industries: - Education & Advocacy (Client Highlights: David Suzuki Foundation / Camp Suzuki; Vancouver Outdoor School) - Associations & Institutions (Client Highlight: BC Conference, The United Church of Canada; Surrey Schools' Aboriginal Education) - Media & Campaigns (Client Highlights: Modern Vancouver Family House Hunt; The Peel documentary film) - Outdoor & Recreation Services (Client Highlights: Outward Bound Canada; Camp Fircom) - Grassroots & Community Development (Client Highlights: BC Camping Conference; Yodel) - Arts & Artists (Client Highlight: Canadian Wilderness Residency Program) My titles have ranged from consultant to project manager; community activator to strategist. As an effective communicator, I am all of these. I strategize, research, plan, design and organize. I create events, websites, copy, video, logos, issues notes, media releases...Whatever medium or message is relevant for your audience, I do it. BC Conference is an administrative and service-delivery body of The United Church of Canada. We provide staff, finances, advice, advocacy and programming resources to 10 presbyteries, 200+ congregations, hundreds of ministry personnel and numerous ministries in British Columbia including camps, social service agencies, housing and care facilities, chaplaincies, hospitals and educational centres. As the Communications Director, my role was to support staff and key volunteers in their general communication needs and goals, advise and educate on effective practices, channel use, feedback gathering and follow-up methods appropriate for their respective beneficiaries. I also assisted with internal communication, supported the executive board's communication needs, monitored and published content about the organization, and reviewed, improved and contributed to the organization's two-way and one-way communication tools and channels in close collaboration with staff and key volunteers. Raised by progressive teachers, and fuelled by a frustration with the education system, I always considered a career in education. But a perceptive mentor suggested I use my passion for storytelling and tribe-building to support the system change. So, with partners Jeff Willis and Calder Cheverie, I co-founded the Vancouver Outdoor School, a mobile service provider of custom outdoor experiences and professional development for students, teachers, families and communities. vancouveroutdoorschool.com Show less

Community Catalysts was a series of experiences for people who show up, share change and have fun! I designed and coordinated three weekend retreats and half a dozen evening workshops. I recruited facilitators, produced communication materials (event descriptions and graphics, posters and flyers, e-newsletter content, etc.), developed and managed channels (website, Facebook and MailChimp), promoted registration, all while reflecting the needs of an entrepreneurial community in the Lower Mainland and Okanagan Valley. The series no longer runs, but the community members are still deeply connected as business partners, life partners, spiritual support, and family friends. Community Catalysts successfully created a micro community that continues to help realize each other's gifts. Show less
