Ciprian DOBRE is professor of Computer Science at University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB). He leads the Laboratory on Pervasive Products and Services. His early scientific and scholarly contributions are in the field of large-scale distributed systems concerning monitoring (MonALISA), high-speed networking (VINCI, FDT), grid application development (EGEE, SEE-GRID), evaluation using modeling and simulation (MONARC, VNSim), mobile applications and smart technologies to reduce urban congestion and air pollution (TRANSYS). He worked for California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and had a scholarship from Oracle. His results received one IBM Faculty Award, two CENIC Awards, and three Best Paper Awards, with world-wide records for networking and mobile computing applications. His research interests include research subjects related to mobile wireless networks and computing applications, pervasive services, context-awareness, and people-centric or participatory sensing. The portfolio of the laboratory includes projects recognized worldwide and expertise on eHealth and smart cities, AI/ML solutions and IoT platform development (NETIoT), smart networking, platforms to support data collection and analytics for urban congestion and air pollution reduction. C. Dobre coordinates the EU vINCI AAL project, where technologies (a smart watch for Alzheimer, smart shoes) are coupled with in-door computer vision and mobile services to deliver non-intrusive health-care support for older adults.

Researching in modelling and simulation of large scale distributed systems. My PhD thesis is presented at http://cipsm.rogrid.pub.ro. I worked on MONARC 2 (http://monarc.cacr.caltech.edu) - developing the simulation models, engine and the components of the simulator. My research activities also involve monitoring and controlling large scale distributed systems. As part of my research i contributed to the MonALISA project (http://monalisa.caltech.edu) - in a collaboration between UPB, CERN and Caltech.
