I worked with Oliver at NTR when I was part of the selling team Germany and he was part of the product management and quality team in Barcelona. It was a pleasure to work with him. He support the sales team with fresh ideas and handle all our problems concerning the software with patience. I'd liked that he was reliable with his commitments so that we could count on what we get from the PM and tell to our customers.

The bad part about being in a small IT department, is that you have to do every kind of task. The good part about being in a small IT department is that you have the chance to do any kind of task. In the more than 3 years that I have been in BFF Bank, I have done "big things" such as managing projects, coordinating software deployments, or implementing Business Support processes. But I have also done "small" things, such as connecting a display that didn't work, changing a web source code, or fixing problems in a database. Serving as Jack of all trades has confirmed me that my PowerPoint years have not affected me. On the contrary, my technical skills remain the same, if not better. Show less

CUSTOMER: EulerHermes / AllianzCUSTOMER: MapfreCUSTOMER: SolunionOnce my work at GESIF was finished, I game back to Solunion, where there was still much work to do. This time my tasks were based in Madrid instead of Paris.During those times EulerHermes development department transitioned to agile methodologies. As Solunion uses EulerHermes tools, this forced them to also transition to agile, at least regarding EulerHermes applications.I received training in agile methodologies and became the Product Owner of the Pluriform tool for the Spain region. The many advantages of the agile approach convinced me to become an evangelist of agile, helping to roll out the methodology in Solunion. Show less

CUSTOMER: GesifCUSTOMER: Cabot Credit ManagementWhen Ian accepted the challenge to fix Gesif's IT department, that had been just acquired by Cabot, he called me to help him with the task because he was happy with the good job I had done in Solunion.Together we revamped all IT areas: IT systems, development and support. We created clear and simple procedures for them using existing best practices frameworks as inspiration, specially ITIL, and a simple but complete dashboard to monitor everything. All of that without forgetting to update the companies project management practices. It was satisfying to see how little by little things where improving, and everything worked much better. Show less

International Project Manager

Feb 2014 - Jul 2016
CUSTOMER: EulerHermes / AllianzCUSTOMER: MapfreCUSTOMER: SolunionTo manage big projects, you must face many challenges. Sometimes the challenge consists on achieving that teams coming from very different backgrounds understand each other and work together to reach a common objective. When Solunion was created, it was a Credit Insurance company with many strong points and a few challenges to overcome. Among those challenges was the fact that Solunion was a joint venture for which two different companies joined each other (Mapfre and EulerHermes). Each of those companies is really good, but also has its own style of doing things. In addition to company differences, there were cultural differences. Mapfre is mainly Spanish and Latino culture, and EulerHermes is mainly Franch and German culture. Because of that cultural difference it was needed to have a position that. In addition to being Project Manager, also had interest in diplomacy, to be able to mediate between both worlds and help them understand each other a bit better. That’s the point when I entered the scene, travelling between Madrid and Paris often enough to accumulate a few frequent traveller points, getting to know the fantastic professionals on one side, and the awesome professionals on the other, helping them to manage the joint projects with the goal of putting the tools from both companies at Solunion service.I learned that walking on the other person’s shoes is a lot more than a nice motivational quote. And the best of all is that I got the satisfaction of seeing the positive effect that my work had on the different projects. Show less

Service Manager — IBM — PRODUBAN (Santander Bank Group)
-
Jul 2011 - Jun 2012
CUSTOMER: IBMCUSTOMER: Produban (Santander Bank Group)From day one, and almost with no adaptation period, I assumed the management of an 18 people team, who was in charge of administrating the company’s Backup Software and provided service for all the different banks in the group. The group’s ownership belonged to the Sr Service Manager, but her other obligations prevented her from assuming it, so I was in charge for the day by day operations, performance tracking, and long term planning.A key part of the role was to correctly manage expectations, something very important in a very demanding environment with equally demanding customer. This required high doses of diplomacy together with a perfect knowledge of what was going on at each moment. At any given moment, I knew the exact state of the service, thanks to our KPIs, which I boosted and improved, achieving an information that was complete, versatile and reliable, all this in real time. CUSTOMER: Isban (Santader Bank Group)As a Project Manager in the area of Software Testing, my principal task was to supervise the testing process of our customer’s applications. This testing process was performed by our near shore team. On one hand, I led the near shore team, ensuring that they performed their tasks properly and delivered in time. On the other hand, I ensured that they had access to everything needed to perform the test: Documentation, testing environments, and precise information.Last but not least, it was key to manage customer expectations and conciliate their needs with the ones of our near shore team. Operations Manager — Telefonica Moviles
-
Oct 2008 - Apr 2010
CUSTOMER: Telefonica Moviles - MovistarMy mission was to coordinate an 8 people team which assisted Business Area performing the operative tasks to implement in the company systems the products, offers and campaigns designed by Business. We were also in charge of solving incidences that might arise related with the functioning or tariffication of such products from the operative point of view and, if needed, escalate such incidences to the technical area, moments when my technical knowledge proved to be very useful, making my work a lot easier. In addition to ensuring the correct performance of my team in the tasks we had assigned to us, it was my responsibility to provide Business Areas with clear, objective and reliable information that helped them understand the situation and empowered them to make the right choices based on information and data that could be trusted. As users of the company systems and tools, we took part in the definition and test phases of evolutive and new developments, contributing our point of view to help making those developments as useful as possible. Once again, my mixed profile was of great help enabling me to combine and understand both perspectives and giving me the vision of the full picture. In fact, one of the successes of my management was to contribute with such overall perspective to keep the good relations between the different departments involved. In that position I tasted outsourcing's bittersweet flavour. Being an outsourced worker is to be and not to be, as Shakespeare (or maybe Schrödinger?) might say. You never know if you are a genuine employee or a second class one until you open the box. But deep inside you, you know that you are fooling yourself and in fact there is no doubt. You will be one or the other depending on the case, and it will always be the least advantageous option. Anytime I need a lesson in humility, I remember this learning. Show less

Everybody makes mistakes, but only the brave admit them. In my case, the interesting economic conditions blinded me and I didn’t properly check the rest of details in the offer. After a short time, it was clear that neither I was the right person for the position, nor it was the right position for me. As important as recognizing your own mistakes is learning from them. And luckily I can say that I learned much from this experience. Everybody makes mistakes, but only the brave admit them. Quality Assurance Manager
-
Jan 2007 - Nov 2007
Due to my good records and performance, I was promoted to the QA Manager position. In the previous year I defined and established all the important processes in the company. Now it was the time to closely monitor them by taking a series of measures about their performance. Those measures allowed me to see which processes were in the right path, and which processes had to be improved. In the former case, I was able to suggest the right course of action by carefully analyzing the information gathered by the Key Performance Indicators.A major improvement implemented during that time was to move our product updates from working days to weekend days in order to minimize any possible impact for customers. I leaded this movement, organized and supervised the groups in charge of monitoring each release.I continued helping the rest of the department when possible, but less than before due to most of my time being committed to my main responsibilities. Product Manager Associate
-
Jan 2006 - Dec 2006
As the company grew, there appeared new needs for positions that previously did not exist. That was the case of the new Product Management department. Formerly, its tasks were distributed among several departments. But now a dedicated department was created. I was enlisted to help the Product Manager in his tasks. My main success during this time was the design and implementation of a Change Request Management system for our products using QuickBase, a very powerful user friendly web distributed database. At the same time I reviewed and updated our product development cycle. After discussing with all the actors involved in the process and carefully examining the information I had gathered, I formalized and proposed the new process, which was accepted by consensus and applied from that moment in the company. As the department was still small, in addition to those major tasks I helped with the other department duties when needed. Technical Writer
-
Feb 2005 - Dec 2005
After my successful and productive time in the UK, I was hired by NTRglobal to apply what I had learned in developing comprehensive and meaningful technical documentation for their products.I created all kind of technical documentation. From internal architecture and platform descriptions, to end user manuals and quick start guides, passing by legal documents such as patent requests or Service Level Agreement descriptions. Each document required a different wording and focus depending on the intended audience. i.e.: End user manuals had to be easy to understand, especially for people with low IT knowledge. Technical documentation and API descriptions had to be well structured, and directed to a more skilled audience.Other documents I created during this time include company presentations and training materials to teach company employees. CUSTOMER: Accenture CUSTOMER: British Government During my time in Avanade I worked in four projects that were part of the NHS' National Programme for IT. The National Programme for IT (NPfIT), is an initiative by the National Health Service (NHS) in England to move towards an electronic care record for patients and to connect 30,000 General practitioners to 300 hospitals, providing secure and audited access to these records by authorised health professionals. NPfIT is said by the NHS CFH agency to be "the world's biggest civil information technology programme". The National Health Service (NHS) is the publicly funded healthcare system of England. The NHS provides healthcare to everyone normally resident in the UK, is funded exclusively through income tax, and is free of charge to the patient. A big part of the project was trusted to Accenture, and as Avanade is part of the Accenture group, I was enlisted to form part of the workforce. The four projects in which I worked were: - Developers Training. - Configuration Management. - Helpdesk Enablement. - Knowledge Base setup Show less

Research Assistant
-
Sep 2002 - Mar 2003
During my time in the University of Geneva, I was integrated into a multidisciplinar team in the Enviromental Chemistry Department. The researchers in this team used a program written in FORTRAN to perform complex calculations that helped them probing their theories. As their research evolved, the program had been modified dozens of times over the years. The result was something very difficult to maintain and understand. My task was to reengineer that program. First, I analyzed all the source code. Second I optimized some parts of the code and updated some others. And third I wrote a documentation explaining the program insights and how to maintain and expand it. Results from calculation made with this program were stored in a database. And I worked in a web interface to maintain and access that database, using Oracle PL/SQL. This job exposed me to the academic world and provided me knowledge about it, rounding my profile and formation. Show less

As a Research Assistant, I supported the educational activities of the school and collaborated in a research project.- I administrated a Stock Market simulation software. This software was used at one of the MBA subjects to help students learn and understand how the stock market works.- I developed an experimental simulation program for the operations management subject, developed with Visual C++6.0.In both cases, my task was not only limited to the IT part. To properly do my job, I had to learn and understand all the concepts and terms used in those two disciplines. Once I understood those concepts, I could apply them to my job. Show less
