Karina Richland is a visionary educator teaching children the skills they need for the next hundred years. She is the Founder and Director of PRIDE Learning Center. For PRIDE, Karina uses a method to teach reading which allows each child to learn using a private (1 teacher to 1 student) Orton-Gillingham-based, multi-sensory, progressive, systematic and repetitive phonics-based program. Historically, it works and is research-validated. As soon as I met Karina, she invited me to evaluate the PRIDE program and I immediately understood the significance of the curriculum's scope and sequence because I am a special education advocate and I wanted to know how to teach an effective program (having seen many which were not effective). I asked Karina to teach me to be a PRIDE teacher, and began my many hours of learning and then teaching. Like all of the teachers at PRIDE, I have seen surprising and wonderful improvement in our students' abilities. Kids who receive the instructional hours they need thrive at PRIDE because they like being at PRIDE. Especially kids who did not thrive elsewhere. Karina designed each Learning Center to provide a comfortable and happy place for each child's success. It takes well over 40 hours to learn to teach the PRIDE program in addition to first being vetted for qualifications, fingerprinting, background check and training to become a PRIDE teacher. To meet PRIDE's goal of teaching more than 1,000,000 children with dyslexia to read with fluency and comprehension, Karina teaches to and supervises the PRIDE method for scores of PRIDE teachers in all locations. I most highly recommend that you talk with Karina yourself. She is experienced and listens carefully. You'll be very pleased with her ability to know exactly how to teach and talk with every student. She has a true gift, and, although her program is a godsend for students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other disabilities that affect learning, any new or struggling reader -- of any age -- can benefit from PRIDE's phonics-based instruction. Karina taught me that learning in a relationship-based environment like a PRIDE Learning Center means that each student progresses in the curriculum with the benefit of an established student-teacher relationship. Like the coach-player dynamic, skills are taught and motivation is a very powerful force. Karina is a delightful, happy and fun person who brings light into the lives of others with an easy grace, compassion, and great skill. I am lucky to know her and to work with her regularly. That wonderful smile on the face of students who receive the instructional hours they need, work hard at PRIDE, and go from being at the bottom of the class at school to the top of the class -- well, it is something I never forget. And each new smile confirms my resolve to continue doing this wonderful work. Karina inspires me. I am happy to answer questions via email. ~ Nan Waldman, Esq.
