History Department Lead and Instructional Coach

In this role, I coordinate department needs based on educator surveys, student data tracking and organization initiatives to optimize performance of the department. In addition, I design and develop goals, learning objectives, and curriculum outlines for grade 6-12 educators. This last year, I onboarded new curriculum while collaborating with all 6-12 subject matter experts, and external Ed-tech organizations such as Discovery Education. Consistently I am working collaboratively with a co-lead to plan bi-weekly and monthly professional development workshops across internal and external stakeholders based on data driven department needs.I also provide instructional coaching to grade 5-12 teachers.

In this role, I develop course content and evaluation strategies that adheres to the California History Framework and Common Core State Standards. I facilitate students to conduct data analysis, and evaluation strategies to increase their mastery on content and skills. Additionally, I use inquiry-based, student-centered teaching practices that use primary and secondary historical texts to provide my students with a platform to be young historians and advocates for their communities.

Middle School English Intervention Teacher

In this role, I developed four separate 10-week curriculums to target students needs in reading, writing, spelling, and grammar. Additionally, I collaborated with a colleague daily to bring these curriculums to light. We taught over 300 students throughout the year on a rotating schedule to ensure all students in need of English development would receive targeted instruction. In addition to developing curriculum, I taught all four grades present at our middle school, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade, with two classes per grade. This provided me with cross-curricular skills and ensured I was able to create relationships with teachers and students across grade levels and subjects.

2018 Corps Member

I was selected from almost 50,000 applicants nationally to join a national teacher corps of 3,500 recent college graduates and professionals who commit 2 years to teach in under-resourced, low-income public schools. Over a 6 week training period, I developed skills and knowledge to achieve significant gains in bridging the education inequity gap. Additionally, I taught summer school Teach for America's Summer Institute at KIPP Scholar Academy in South Los Angeles. While training in the classroom, I also engaged in a full schedule of professional development activities, discussion groups, fundraising events, readings, and individual reflections to grow in my particular teaching area.

The Forum is Cal Poly's award-winning history journal that publishes the work of History majors, minors, and grad students. Working with a co-executive editor, we recruited a 10-person editorial staff to help edit a 50 page, award-winning journal compiled of academic work from Cal Poly students. In addition, I collaborated to improve my editing skills and worked with graphic designers to draft a new tenth-anniversary edition of the journal. Associated Students, Inc (ASI) is an organization responsible for Student Government, the Recreation Center, the Student Union and the Children's Center at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. ASI's mission is to give student's the ultimate college experience. I worked under the supervision of the Directors and Executive Assistants of Associated Students, Inc. Daily I worked with the ASI accounting department to process and handle large sums and checks upwards of $500,000. In addition, I answered phones, emails and acted as the face of ASI's business office.

Summer Orientation Leader

Cal Poly Orientation is one of the top rated orientation programs in the nation. It consists of a three part orientation; Open House in the spring, Summer Orientation and Week of Welcome (WOW), the week prior to classes beginning. In this role, I developed leadership skills and built relationships with 4,000 incoming Cal Poly students and their parents/supporters. Additionally, I led multiple groups of 30-40 students during a day and half orientation. Furthermore, during this process, I collaborated with on campus resources to create a smooth transition into college for incoming students.
