Dr. Vernold Miller is considered the foremost expert on the topic of intellectual downplaying behavior. She is credited with coining the term "intellectual downplaying" and creating the Intellectual Downplaying Research Hub. She conducted the first large-scale study researching the topic of intellectual downplaying and regularly presents her findings in academic publications and at professional conferences across the US.
