ADICA and ANDIA are members of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings Inc., one of Japan’s largest non-life insurance companies, with a worldwide network providing diversified insurance services. ADICA & ANDIA are the underwriters for Toyota Insurance and Lexus Insurance. Major achievements: • Developed a team of 6 software engineers to build and maintain an internal portfolio of applications (policy and claims management system, fleet management, rating engine, payment system ...) using Ruby on Rails and front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap and Ext JS. This included recruiting, training, providing implementation recommendations, planning and allocating work, reviewing code to ensure it meets the specifications and coding guidelines. • Earned the trust of key stakeholders (business managers, business analysts) to analyse business requirements, review and formulate technical specifications, implement and validate the deliverables • Consulted with internal system users to identify potential friction points and design solutions such as task automation and performance improvement • Led a major overhaul of all internal IT systems to support two insurers (ADICA & ANDIA) as part of an internal re-organisation while staying compliant with the APRA general insurance licence and the Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) requirements. • Re-designed the application infrastructure to improve reliability, security, and performance using technologies such as Chef, VMware vSphere, HAProxy/keepalived, Nagios... • Coordinated efforts to introduce single sign-on authentication to all the applications. • Improved the development lifecycle and code quality by introducing new tools and process (agile concepts, code review, CI/CD) • Refactored and extracted pricing engine to a microservice to speed up premium calculations by 10x • Reduced end of month batch processing time from hours to minutes • Contributed to open-source: Chef cookbooks, Ruby & Ruby gems Show less
