During this internship I will shadow sales, account managers, production managers, the branch manager, crew leaders, etc. My internship in particular is tailored more towards the sales and management of the business.

Nursery Manager
-
Mai 2019 - Mai 2020
Macon Gardens is a local family owned business in Wake Forest, North Carolina. I was able to work for Macon Gardens for a year where I was able to learn about the green industry from a nursery perspective throughout every season of the year. Throughout the Summer I worked full time here and throughout the school year I worked part time. My job was to take care of the greenhouse crops, as well as the retail crops, and work on the sales floor helping people design the landscape they are looking for by helping them choose plants that they like and would work well in their landscape based on the information they give me about their landscape. Occasionally this job involved the planting and maintenance of the newly planted greenhouse crops. I also helped customers identify plants they were interested in and let them know if we sold the plant or where they could buy it. I also helped customers identify and diagnose problems within their landscapes such as fungal infections, insects, drought, etc. and told them how they could resolve the issue.

I worked with The Scott's Miracle-Gro Company during their peak season throughout the late Winter and early Spring within the Raleigh/Cary, North Carolina area. I was responsible for ensuring that the product was always well displayed and stocked throughout local stores. I took direction from the Scott's Regional Sales Manager and relayed information to store personnel providing input and feedback on sales, related issues, opportunities, and inventory needs. It was also my responsibility to inform customers about our products and their uses to help them find the product they are looking for.

Weed Science Research Assistant
-
Mai 2017 - Aug. 2018
I have worked for two years under Dr. Joe C. Neal & Dr. Christopher Harlow researching and collecting data on pesticides, with a focus on herbicides, in different locations throughout North Carolina. Throughout this internship I learned how to apply both granular and liquid chemicals in a safe and efficient manner. Most all of our experiments included both a safety and an efficacy study. The safety studies told us whether or not the chemical being tested was safe to use on ornamental plants and the efficacy studies told us how well the chemical worked for it's intended purpose. Throughout my time researching at NC State I was able to learn a lot about research, pesticides and other related chemicals and their applications, and the companies that provided us with the chemicals to research. I was also lucky enough to conduct my own independent research study in my time researching at NC State on Nostoc, a cyanobacteria, which my collected data was later presented at local conventions.

Sales Floor Team Member
-
Aug. 2014 - Aug. 2016
I worked at Run N Tri Outfitters for two years as a floor hand as well as a cashier. In this position I had to communicate with customers in person and over the phone. It was my responsibility to ask customers if they needed any help finding anything or to ask them if they had any questions about the products we sold. This job mainly consisted of working with experienced runners who were interested in buying new shoes. In order to find the right pair of shoes for every person, I had to get to know more about them and their physical activity habits in order to make an informed decision about which shoe would be the best fit for them. Every person is different and not one single pair of shoes was the right fit for everyone. I would then help them try the shoes on and test them out before they purchased them.
