Project title: ‘India's low-carbon transition: from coal to solar’ • Compiled, organized, and analyzed Indian coal sector policies from 1950-2020 for the international project EEIST (Economics of Energy Innovation and System Transition). • Created a detailed dataset of energy sector projections for India using modelling studies from available scientific literature. • Performed linear and non-linear regression analysis on available energy sector data using OriginPro; used the results to calculate cumulative carbon dioxide emissions by India from 2020 to 2050. • Calculated fair share carbon budgets for India using methodology available in scientific literature. • Co-authored an article on Indian energy transition; soon be sent for peer-review to a reputed journal. • Drafted high-quality figures for the project using MS Excel, Miro, and OriginPro software Show less

Project title: Development of bio-retention media for sustainable stormwater management • Designed, set up, and operated a lab-scale column-based bio-retention system, consisting of 10 columns in the first phase and 5 columns in the second phase of the project. • Regularly prepared synthetic stormwater by mixing deionized water and chemicals to model the actual composition of stormwater (ammonia, nitrate, total solids, oxygen demand, phosphate, organic carbon). • Regularly tested the concentration of pollutants in treated water; used analytical tools like UV-Vis spectrophotometer, ion and liquid chromatography, and total organic carbon analyzer. • Conducted Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption modelling experiments to study the adsorption of water pollutants on bio-retention media like risk husk, biochar, zeolite, vermiculite, and water treatment residue (WTR). • Work done during the internship was used for later stages of the project; nitrate removal of greater than 40% was observed without using a separate anoxic zone in the treatment system.
