I worked as a research fellow on a project developing smart phone technology to improve data collection in the Torres Strait Traditional Inhabitant Finfish Fishery. We developed a mobile phone application which we trialed with indigenous commercial fishers on Darnley Island in the remote north-eastern region of the Torres Strait. The project has involved extensive consultation with commercial fishers, management authorities and local communities in the region and requires the development of education and support programs to facilitate the uptake of the application.
