Test Engineer

Jun 2020 - Present
I have written the test software and acquisition software for the testing of the infrared detectors for NASA's NEO Surveyor spacecraft. The mission is to build and launch a space telescope to find and track NEOs (near Earth objects) like asteroids and comets that could impact Earth. We are essentially protecting the world- you're welcome! I have written the test software and acquisition software for the testing of the infrared detectors for NASA's NEO Surveyor spacecraft. I was a research assistant for Prof. Christopher Wrede at Michigan State's NSCL where we focused on nuclear astrophysical phenomena like novae. In 2019 we finished our commissioning experiment for our new detector system, GADGET, with our facility's cyclotron. I have performed data analysis leveraging proficiency in C++, ROOT, built circuit boards, am well-versed in soldering processes, have gained experience in standard clean-room protocol, and built radiation detectors as well as support structures. I am trained in: electrical safety, radiation safety, machine operation, chemical safety, compressed gas cylinder safety, gas monitor safety.

I was accepted to attend the launch of SpaceX's CRS-18 Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft. I was a part of NASA Social where we were tasked with posting all over social media and taking many photos of the event in order to showcase NASA's research efforts and get the word out about STEM. I am an LA for PHY 241, a biology-based physics class that incorporates a hands-on approach to learning. We give a set of problems to the students and help them solve it while giving them room to learn on their own. I worked as a REU (research experience for undergrads) student at USF for the summer in Dr. Zhimin Shi's photon lab. He does experimental optics and is working to improve free-space optical communication through turbulence. My tasks included: taking data using LabVIEW, analyzing data with Matlab, and setting up all the experiments. I won first place in the poster presentation at the end of the program. I created many layouts, magazines, invitations, etc. for the university and alumni of Michigan State University. I also designed buttons, magnets, t-shirts, and even helped with various events that the university put on. I liked this position very much and enjoyed designing beautiful things for my school every day.
