  I was pretty confident my first day with only a slight rumble in my gut and a light glistening of stress sweat. The hour was endless and as I finished going over the details of this magnificent syllabus I had slaved over for the last three days I realized my one fatal flaw. I was in the wrong classroom, these are not my students, and I am not teaching Math. The fact that they were staring at me in bewilderment and asking why they had to do a Descriptive paper on their favorite food should have been taken as a question of common sense and not one of rebellion. Asking him to leave his blasphemous contempt for English Literature at home may have been a bit extreme but I had to defend my ground. After realizing my mistake I casually thanked them for participating in this year's "Sample a Class before you take it" program and left them with my colleagues contact information. I told them that I look forward to seeing them all next semester and wished them all well. It's going to be a great year.
