Taught 9th grade English, 11th grade American Literature, Creative Writing and English Classics. In regular, inclusion based classrooms, I focused on common core subject matter, utilizing a wide range of technology for research and student engagement. My intent was to teach real world application of ‘Higher Order’ thinking skills through the use of rigorous and interesting written word. Taught 10th grade English virtually via Blackboard Collaborate, phone and Internet classroom. The course covered a wide range of English/Language Arts common core subject matter including suspense and humor techniques, rhetorical devices used in non-fictional writing to Shakespearean analysis. I organized, implemented and facilitated an instructional program that resulted in students achieving academic success – whether they need an extra credit, are home schooled, or medically unable to attend a brick and mortar. Taught 11th grade Advanced Placement Language and Composition. This course comprised of an overall examination of rhetorical language and the role that it sustains in society, with the emphasis on students mastering composition and their use as a rhetorical basis for communication. I utilized the guided release model to insure that all students at all different learning levels fully understood and mastered the material. Previous to AP and due to my proficiency with technology as a whole, I was tasked with refitting the entire English NovaNET curriculum for credit recovery, and oversaw the program. During this time, we were able to increase the pass rate as well as the overall rigor of the class. Prior to NovaNET, I taught 11th grade American Literature for three Regular classes and two Honors. In this position I facilitated the learning of our personally cultural literature, from the classic English settlers to the different tastes brought to America from foreign peoples, near and abroad. The curriculum included literature from the 1400s to modern day, short and long fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. I incorporated an emphasis on writing and studying literature in a formal medium and more dramatic fashion. I was also the head coach for boys’ varsity soccer, and co-coached the tennis team during the 2009 season. Interact Club sponsor for 2010. Show less
