Sports Editor
-
Oct 2019 - Present
For the past two years, I have been the Sports Editor for The Courier-Times, the local newspaper for the City of Roxboro, North Carolina. As the Sports Editor, I am responsible for writing features and game stories, capturing game highlights though photography and interviews and updating the community on upcoming sporting events. I held this position during the COVID shutdown of high school sports and was able to create sufficient content to keep the sports pages of the newspaper running. I am the primary interface with the local and regional community for sports related content, along with writing a weekly “man on the street” column about issues important to the community. I meet with athletic directors for the schools I am covering, coaches for various teams and interview players and their parents about featured athlete’s current and future aspirations. I also started a personal column covering my insights about community sports programs and other issues of interest to subscribers.

Charlotte Hornets Business Symposium
-
Nov 2017 - Nov 2017
On November 1st, 2017, I traveled with an on-campus club that I am a part of, Sport Management Association, to the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina to network with business executives that are part of the Charlotte Hornets team. At the start of this event, students checked in, received tickets to the game, and were then shown to their seats by an executive to listen to the speaking panel. In this speaking panel, students had the opportunity to ask the Hornets executives questions about their respective fields. After the speaking panel, we dispersed into the lobby and then go to meet separately with these executives. When the networking portion was over, us High Point University students got a private tour of the arena. After the networking event, students attended the game that night between the Charlotte Hornets and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Team Manager
-
Aug 2013 - Oct 2015
As Team Manager of my Varsity High School Football Team, I was asked by my head coach to take down statistics for every offensive play. I kept rushing yards, passing yards, receiving yards, punt yards, and scoring drives. At the end of each game, I would return the clipboard that I took stats on to my head coach, and he would then enter them into the computer. One of the perks of this position was that I got to be the halftime announcer for all of the home football games. At half-time, I would announce the first-half stats for the Carrboro High School football team over the speakers.
