I have had the privilege of being led and taught by many amazing conductors and Bob stands out as one of the most impactful instructors I've ever had. His enthusiasm, musical skill and dedication to artistic excellence is matched only by his passion for raising up the next generation of musicians. Although it has been 25 years since he was my teacher and mentor, Bob is still impacting my life in a positive way through his continued encouragement and guidance into my professional life as a composer and as a friend. He is one of those unique teachers who has the ability to impact his students' lives beyond just their field of study. With several decades to reflect on my own career path, I believe that anyone who has the opportunity to study with Bob will find their lives elevated musically, professionally and personally.

Dr. Robert Hasty was my conducting teacher during summer classes at Northwestern University. At the time, I had extensive experience in teaching young children, teaching private lessons for low brass, and performing at church or small ensembles in my home community, but I had few conducting experiences with orchestra. I was very encouraged by Dr. Hasty's methods of conducting and teaching, and I was empowered to transition from teaching elementary music to teaching middle school orchestra. Also, I served at the Principal Trombone for two summers in the NU Summer Orchestra 2007-2008, in which he was the Conductor. I was very impressed with his personable nature with all the musicians in addition to leading us to the highest level of performances at the college level. Dr. Hasty inspired me to study professional scores, and develop my conducting skills above the level that was required to teach orchestras in secondary skills. The experiences I received under his teaching and conducting leadership increased my confidence as a conductor, and helped me to improve my score study in greater depth and understanding. I have great memories of these days as his student, and my students have grown from the knowledge and experience I gained during these studies at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University.
